Jakes Construction is currently constructing a 500 metre runway extension for the Nanaimo Airport Commission. Attending the April 2009 ground-breaking ceremony was Premier Gordon Campbell, accompanied by local dignitaries. Scheduled for a Fall 2009 completion, the project includes a 1,200 metre taxi-way extension tie-in. This will provide the airport with a much-needed capacity enhancement.
