History of Jakes

It all began in 1991 as Jake’s Bobcat Service, when owner/operator Jake Klaassen started his own owner-operator Chilliwack-based contracting business. Long hours and back-breaking work were the norm.

A few short years later, opportunity led Jake to partner with respected industry veteran, the late Ralph Rosse. Ralph brought mentorship and a careers-worth of experience to the operation and together in 1993 they incorporated a new company – 456355 BC Ltd. dba Jake’s Contracting.

Compelling growth opportunities soon led to the relocation of the business to Vancouver Island. By 1996, multiple projects had been completed from Campbell River to Nanaimo. But Jake and Ralph still had their eye on the Mainland, and were successful bidders on projects in the Fraser Valley and BC Interior. Given the province-wide focus, the head office was relocated to Chilliwack where it remains today.

The company earned a reputation for being capable, resourceful and committed to the needs of its customers. Over the years, the assembly of a core of dedicated and skilled employees contributed to the growth of the business. Jakes also focussed on partnering with quality sub-trades and suppliers, implementing an equipment acquisition strategy to drive productive capacity.

The same strong work ethic and commitment that characterized Jake’s Bobcat Service is the hallmark of our business today. Since that humble beginning, we have completed projects throughout much of British Columbia, and in 2008 we celebrated our 15th Anniversary. To commemorate this milestone, we renamed 456355 BC Ltd. dba Jake’s Contracting to Jakes Construction Ltd.
