Kilgard Creek Drainage Improvements

  • Location – Sumas Mountain, Abbotsford BC
  • Project Owner – City of Abbotsford
  • Description – Replacement of failing pipe culvert with a 2400 x 1800 pre-cast box culvert, complete with earthworks, retaining walls and road works
  • Additional considerations were environmental protection, creek diversion and in-stream works under the direction of environmental consultant
  • Schedule – completed August 2011

University of the Fraser Valley Ring-Road Construction

  • Location – Abbotsford, BC
  • Project Owner – University of the Fraser Valley
  • Description – Construction of a road way and parking lot to streamline on-campus vehicle traffic management, involving: land clearing, earth works, road construction, utilities, asphalt paving, curbing, sidewalks, streetlighting and landscaping
  • Schedule – completed September 2010

Abbotsford Visitor Information Centre

  • Location – Sumas Way, Abbotsford BC
  • Project Owner – City of Abbotsford
  • Description – Construction of new visitor centre parking lot, involving: earthworks, utilities, asphalt paving, curbing, sidewalks and landscaping
  • Schedule – completed June 2010

Promontory Sidewalks, Chilliwack BC

  • Location – Promontory Mountain, Chilliwack BC
  • Project Owner – City of Chilliwack
  • Description – Walkway and sidewalk construction to accommodate safer pedestrian and student access between GW Graham School and the Promontory subdivision, involving: land clearing, earthworks, retaining walls, asphalt paving, curbing, sidewalks and streetlights
  • Schedule – completed December 2010

Abbotsford International Airport Taxi-way & Apron Expansion

  • Location – Abbotsford, BC
  • Project Owner – City of Abbotsford / Abbotsford International Airport
  • Description – Construction of a 3 km parallel taxi-way and 1.5 km widened apron as part of the airport’s capacity management initiative, involving: site grading, gravel layering, storm drainage, water main installation, asphalt paving, electrical work (apron & taxi-way lighting system) and landscaping
  • In addition to the original contract, Jakes Construction completed a 1 km apron rehabilitation and additional asphalt paved infrastructure to accommodate aircraft engine checking
  • Schedule (main contract) – completed January 2011
  • Schedule (additional work) – completed August 2011

Highway 9, Miami River Bridge Upgrade

Location – Miami River Bridge crossing, Hwy 9, Harrison Hot Springs, BC

Description – Replacement of existing degraded steel culvert with a new concrete bridge.

Scope – Demolition, in-stream work, pile driving, concrete including precast girders, roadwork, utilities and environmental mitigation

Schedule – Complete – now open to traffic

Nanaimo Airport Runway & Taxi-way Extensions

  • Location – Nanaimo, BC
  • Description - Nanaimo Airport runway & taxi-way extensions
  • Scope of work – Site grading, gravel layering, storm drainage, asphalt paving, electrical work (runway lighting system installation)
  • Schedule - February 2009 through December 2009
  • Project owner – Nanaimo Airport Commission
  • Engineering – McElhanney Consulting Services Ltd.

Nathan Creek Culvert Replacement

Location: Northwest Abbotsford

Description: Replacement of existing degraded concrete culvert with two sets of new concrete box culverts

Scope of work: Land clearing, excavation, demolition, culvert supply and installation, embankment fill, retaining walls, roadwork, asphalt paving, creek control, environmental work

Schedule: August 2008 through October 2008

Owner: City of Abbotsford

Highway 1 & Mount Lehman Truck Climbing Lane

Location – Highway 1 at Mt. Lehman Road, Abbotsford to 3.2 km west of interchange

Description – Addition of a third lane to the existing 2-lane westbound highway. The existing slow lane will become a truck climbing lane to assist vehicles in negotiating the hill climb. The new lane will be in the median to the left of the existing fast lane.

Scope of work – Land clearing, topsoil stripping, excavation and embankment fill, road layer works, asphalt paving, storm drainage work, retaining walls, traffic control

Schedule – complete – 3 westbound lanes now open to traffic

Nixon Allan Road Off-site Servicing

  • Location – East Chilliwack, The Falls area
  • Description – Two-lane access road that leads to a future residential development area, involving: road construction, utility installation and retaining wall installation
  • Schedule – restart Spring ’09, completed Fall ’09
