Vedder River Gravel Extraction

Project Overview

As part of the Flood Mitigation Program for the City of Chilliwack and City of Abbotsford, Jakes Construction proactively removed accumulated gravel deposits from the Vedder River in 2014, 2016, and 2022. We were responsible for the removal of sand and gravel from six separate locations along the river.

We were also in charge of construction of access to gravel bars, excavation and gravel removal, hauling of gravel to stockpile areas, and gravel bar restoration. All work was performed outside of the flowing water and in a window that presented the lowest risk of harm to natural habitats. This project was monitored each time by a qualified environmental engineer to ensure the highest standards of compliance were met.
